CME launches single-stock futures on 50+ U.S. names including Nvidia, Apple, SpaceX starting July 27

CME Group announced it will launch Single Stock Futures on 50+ leading U.S. equities on July 27, pending final regulatory approval, offering 55 standard-sized and 22 Micro-sized contracts. The initial rollout covers major names including Nvidia, Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Tesla, Micron, and SpaceX, among others. Unlike traditional equity options, these cash-settled futures provide leverage through standardized margining and 23-hour daily trading (Sunday-Friday, 5 p.m. to 4 p.m. CT) on the CME Globex platform.

The contracts offer a simplified alternative to options for expressing leveraged, directional views on individual stocks. Standard contracts control 100 shares per contract; Micro versions use a 10-share multiplier. CME positions them as tools for precise equity-price risk management and capital-efficient hedging, enabling easy transitions between broad index exposure and targeted single-name positions. The firm cited record demand for equity derivatives in 2026: futures and options average daily volume hit 8.6 million contracts with 11.7 million average open interest, while equity futures ADV reached 7.2 million (up 12% year-over-year).

Single-stock futures failed spectacularly in their first attempt via OneChicago (2002–2020) due to options' entrenched market dominance and user familiarity. CME's relaunch bets on a 2026 retail and institutional trader base already comfortable with leverage via 0DTE options, crypto perpetual futures, and prediction markets. The timing coincides with elevated interest-rate volatility and portfolio rebalancing needs, though adoption will ultimately depend on whether CME can build network effects around spot-price discovery and margin efficiencies.
