Imec pushes quantum computing toward manufacturable silicon systems

Imec, the Belgian semiconductor research institute, is advancing quantum computing by focusing on pathways to manufacturable silicon-based quantum systems rather than exotic qubit platforms. The initiative combines fab-integrated design and materials science to scale quantum hardware into real production lines.

Moving quantum beyond the lab into existing semiconductor manufacturing infrastructure removes a major deployment bottleneck for enterprise quantum applications. Imec's silicon-first approach positions regional semiconductor ecosystems (especially in Europe) as quantum-competitive alternatives to pure-play quantum startups.
