MagicSchool AI reaches $63M funding with educator backing; K-12 AI platform sees 1-in-5 US schoolchildren

MagicSchool AI, a Denver-based edtech platform for K-12 teachers, has raised nearly $63 million in total funding since launch in 2023, driven by rapid adoption and strong revenue growth. The latest Series B extension was led by Valor Equity Partners, with prior support from Bain Capital Ventures, Adobe Ventures, Smash Capital, and GSV Ventures.

The platform serves as an AI copilot for educators, automating lesson planning, rubric generation, assignment differentiation, and student-facing tutoring experiences. The company now partners with 10,000+ schools including Denver Public Schools, Broward County Schools, and Hillsborough County Schools, serving approximately 8 million educators globally. One in five children in America attend a school in partnership with MagicSchool.

CEO Adeel Khan, a former public school principal and founding principal of a top-performing Denver high school, initially faced investor skepticism due to his non-technical background. The company overcame this by demonstrating undeniable traction: 3x year-over-year revenue growth at the end of last year and rapid educator adoption. Khan credits domain expertise—not the model itself—as the true differentiator in vertical AI.

For practitioners: MagicSchool's success validates the educator-as-founder thesis and the move toward domain-specific AI tools.
