NVIDIA DGX GB300 supercomputer comes online at Naval Postgraduate School
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang visited the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California to commission a DGX GB300 supercomputer, marking the arrival of one of the world's most powerful AI systems at the U.S. military's flagship graduate university. The system gives NPS's 1,500 in-resident students and 600 faculty on-premises access to large-scale model training and inference for applications including weather prediction, cybersecurity, disaster resilience planning.
The DGX GB300 is anchored by an NVIDIA AI Technology Center on the NPS campus and includes NVIDIA Mission Control software for orchestration. The deployment was supported by infrastructure partners including DDN (high-performance data systems), VAST Data (unified data platform), and Vertiv (racks, cooling, power, and fluid management). NVIDIA expanded the collaboration through its Deep Learning Institute, providing instructor toolkits to NPS faculty for weaving AI across graduate curricula.
For architects: The NPS deployment represents a proof-of-concept for frontier-scale AI infrastructure in education and defense contexts. With GB300 (still cutting-edge, one generation behind Vera Rubin) going online at a military institution, the military infrastructure stack is maturing—important as defense budgets for AI accelerate. The integration of partner ecosystem (DDN, VAST, Vertiv) signals how GB300 deployments become routine.
