NVIDIA GeForce NOW doubles down on cloud gaming with Steam Summer Sale discounts
NVIDIA on Thursday announced GFN Thursday discounts bundling GeForce NOW membership deals with Steam's Summer Sale event. GeForce NOW's 12-month Ultimate membership (GeForce RTX 4080/5080 cloud performance, 4K, 120 fps) is discounted $70, while the 12-month Performance tier is $35 off. The promotion pairs cloud streaming with the Steam Summer Sale, allowing users to purchase games during the sale and stream them immediately on devices without downloads or storage constraints.
The bundle move reflects NVIDIA's strategy to drive adoption of its cloud gaming service during peak PC gaming sales events. GeForce NOW is expanding its library: six new titles are joining the service this week, including Devolver Digital releases (Dark Scrolls, newly available on Steam June 22) and Square Enix's The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales. The service removes storage and hardware upgrade barriers, letting players stream RTX-optimized games—including DLSS, ray tracing, and Reflex—across PCs, Macs, handheld devices, phones, and TVs.
For NVIDIA, GeForce NOW addresses a parallel revenue stream beyond GPUs and data center chips: gaming infrastructure and subscription economics. The cloud streaming model sidesteps the memory shortage crisis hitting consumer PC makers—a buyer purchasing through GeForce NOW avoids the chip cost inflation that prompted Apple and Microsoft price hikes. As memory prices escalate and gaming PC hardware becomes expensive, cloud gaming subscriptions offer lower friction for casual and mid-market gamers.
