NVIDIA, KAIST launch first joint AI lab in Korea; SK memory co-dev expanded

NVIDIA and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) announced a new joint AI research lab at KAIST's Kim Jaechul Graduate School of AI in Seoul, focused on advancing agentic AI for South Korea. This is the first joint AI lab between a Korean university and any global technology company. The lab brings together NVIDIA's full-stack AI expertise, Nemotron open models, and NVIDIA AI Cloud partner compute with KAIST's research talent.

The announcement arrives as NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang wraps an Asia-Pacific summit visit, building on his trip to Korea last month. NVIDIA and SK Group also celebrated their longstanding partnership at the summit, confirming an expanded collaboration to co-develop memory solutions spanning AI infrastructure, personal AI, and physical AI workloads—extending earlier June announcements of SK Telecom's plans to build AI infrastructure for Korea's physical AI and robotics initiatives.

This signals Korea's push to become a regional AI hub and to diversify supplier relationships beyond China. The KAIST partnership moves NVIDIA deeper into academic research pipelines in Asia, while the SK memory co-development aligns chip supply with Korea's national AI infrastructure goals.
