Nvidia mobilizes $500B financing with Wall Street giants to treat GPU compute as infrastructure

Nvidia announced partnerships with Apollo Global Management, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield Asset Management, Goldman Sachs, and KKR on August 10 to establish financing platforms designed to mobilize over $500 billion in third-party capital for AI infrastructure. The deal uses GPU hardware as collateral for asset-backed securities (ABS), treating AI compute—which historically depreciated rapidly—as durable, revenue-generating infrastructure eligible for long-duration debt financing.

The framework rests on the thesis that Nvidia GPUs (particularly A100s deployed in 2020) continue generating contracted cash flows six years later, making residual-value assumptions sustainable across 5–7 year debt maturities. CoreWeave has established the template through investment-grade-rated $8.5 billion GPU-backed facilities backed by Meta contracts, allowing pension funds and insurance companies to hold the debt. The new platform scales this model across multiple customers and operators, shifting Nvidia’s vendor-financing burden to institutional capital.

For infrastructure teams and cloud operators, the move signals Wall Street’s bet that GPU economics have fundamentally changed—that compute is now infrastructure, not disposable hardware. Neoclouds like CoreWeave and Nebius benefit most immediately through access to cheaper, deeper financing. For Nvidia, the move preserves $15% of free cash flow by offloading customer financing risk; for architects, it unlocks capital for data center buildout but depends entirely on whether GPUs age slower than Wall Street models assume.
