Point2 Technology raises $136M Series B with Arm backing, targets AI interconnect bottleneck

Point2 Technology completed a $136 million Series B extension led by Korea-based LB Investment, with new strategic participation from Arm and continued support from Maverick Silicon. The San Jose startup develops RF-based interconnect SoCs for AI data centers using its patented e-Tube platform, which transmits data through plastic waveguides instead of copper or optical fiber. Arm's participation signals chip-architecture backing—the SVP of Strategic Ventures framed this as part of an end-to-end infrastructure stack from compute to memory to interconnect.

Point2 claims e-Tube delivers 10x the reach and 5x lower weight than copper at comparable cost, and 3x lower power, 3x lower cost, and 1,000x lower latency than optical interconnects while avoiding laser reliability issues. The technology scales from pluggable cables to near-packaged (NPE) and co-packaged (CPE) form factors designed for terabit-per-second rack-to-accelerator fabrics. CEO Sean Park told investors interconnect has become the 'defining bottleneck' as AI clusters reach terabit-per-second bandwidth demands and data center power consumption becomes the limiting constraint.

Arm's investment matters more than the round size. Strategic participation from NVIDIA, Arm, UMC Capital, Molex and Bosch Ventures suggests hyperscalers are not standardizing on a single interconnect approach but evaluating multiple technologies in parallel. Point2 is still a minority bet relative to optical vendors like Lumilens ($700M raised earlier this month). The near-term milestone: whether Point2 discloses a named hyperscaler design win or high-volume supply agreement in the next two quarters, as the company moves from proof-of-concept to production deployment.
