Qualcomm released detailed specs for its Snapdragon C system-on-chip, the ARM-based platform announced in June for $300 laptops. The 8-core Kryo CPU peaks at 3 GHz single-core and 2 GHz multi-core, with an integrated Adreno GPU (900 MHz) and Hexagon NPU. Reference designs support up to 16 GB LPDDR5/5x memory and PCIe 3.0 NVMe storage.
Qualcomm's benchmarks pit the Snapdragon C against Intel's N250 and claim 67% better multi-threaded Cinebench performance on battery, plus up to 2.1× better battery efficiency (multi-threaded Cinebench). Single-threaded Geekbench shows 44% improvement and multi-core 24%, though Qualcomm published no plugged-in (AC) numbers—a notable gap. The company is promising OEM reference designs from HP, Acer, Asus, and Lenovo, with Acer showing a prototype Aspire Go 15, though no retail pricing or date yet.
Architecture and cost assumptions remain uncertain. Qualcomm hasn't detailed the Hexagon NPU's TOPS or addressed whether the $300 price point will hold given recent memory cost inflation. Success hinges on whether OEMs can hit that price at scale while shipping to compete with Intel's Wildcat Lake and Apple's MacBook Neo—both moving to DDR5 only.
