Quantum Systems raises $1.2B at $8B valuation as European drone defense spending accelerates
German autonomous drone startup Quantum Systems closed a €1 billion ($1.2 billion) Series D, more than doubling its valuation to €7 billion ($8 billion post-money) in under a year. The round was co-led by Blackstone, Noteus, Airbus, and Advent, with participation from institutional investors including Fidelity, Wellington Management, and returning backers Balderton and HV Capital.
Quantum Systems manufactures vertical-takeoff reconnaissance drones and the MOSAIC UXS software platform that integrates hardware, sensors, counter-drone systems, and drone ports into a networked ecosystem. The company is profitable and has demonstrated operational scale: its systems executed over 19,000 missions in Ukraine in 2025 across intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance roles. It has expanded manufacturing and operations across Germany, Ukraine, the U.S., Australia, Romania, the U.K., and the Baltics.
The funding underscores structural capital flows into European defense-tech. Defense startups in the EU raised a record €8.7 billion in 2025, up 55% year-on-year, with late-stage deals tripling to €4.7 billion. Quantum Systems is now one of at least three European drone unicorns competing for NATO contracts. The new capital will fund production-scale expansion, supply-chain resilience, international expansion, and AI and software capabilities.
For architects evaluating edge compute and autonomous systems infrastructure: Quantum Systems' dual focus on unmanned hardware and the interconnected MOSAIC software platform reflects the shift toward multi-domain autonomous systems. The company's profitability and operational traction in Ukraine signal mature-stage execution; this round is less a seed-stage bet and more a capital raise to industrialize and export a proven platform.
