Safe Superintelligence closes $5B Nvidia investment for Vera Rubin compute access

Ilya Sutskever's Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI) announced a $5 billion investment from Nvidia as part of a long-term strategic partnership, paired with priority access to Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin GPU platform. The deal will allow SSI to increase its compute capacity by roughly 10x over the next 12 months. Nvidia gained rare early access to SSI's closely guarded AI research in exchange for the capital and hardware commitment.

SSI, founded in 2024, has now raised roughly $7 billion across two rounds without releasing any public products, prioritizing safety research away from commercial pressure. The startup's previous $2 billion Series B in February 2025 valued it at $32 billion. Investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed, DST Global, Alphabet, and Greenoaks have backed the lab led by Sutskever, a former OpenAI chief scientist whose research contributed to AlexNet, AlphaGo, and GPT models.

The deal extends Nvidia's pattern of strategic capital deployment in frontier AI labs most likely to consume large volumes of its most advanced chips. For architects, it signals Nvidia's tightening grip across the AI infrastructure stack—the chipmaker now finances, supplies hardware to, and accesses research from companies that will drive future silicon demand. SSI's pivot from Google TPUs to Nvidia Vera Rubin also marks a subtle but important compute infrastructure shift.
