Samsung deploys ChatGPT Enterprise & Codex to all 300K+ employees globally

Samsung Electronics has announced one of OpenAI's largest enterprise AI deployments, rolling out ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex to all Samsung Electronics employees in Korea and all Device eXperience (DX) employees worldwide. The announcement on June 11-12, 2026, marks a dramatic reversal: Samsung had banned generative AI tools company-wide in March 2023 after engineers accidentally leaked sensitive source code through ChatGPT.

The deployment spans Samsung's entire Korea operation and its global DX division (covering Galaxy phones, home appliances, and consumer devices), representing tens of thousands of employees across continents. Codex, OpenAI's coding agent, is available not only to engineers but to marketing, product development, manufacturing, and non-technical staff — employees with zero coding background can describe what they want and receive working software. Samsung SDS, the company's IT services arm, brokered the deal and became the first Korean entity authorized to manage ChatGPT Enterprise deployments for other South Korean businesses.

Codex weekly active users in Korea have grown nearly 800% since February 1, 2026, reflecting rapid adoption even before the global rollout. Training for Samsung's full global workforce is expected to be completed by end of 2026. The company now pairs ChatGPT Enterprise with Gemini and Claude, building a multi-vendor AI stack across operations.

For architects evaluating enterprise AI strategies, Samsung's deployment signals the normalization of AI-augmented workflows at Fortune 500 scale. The shift from a blanket ban to company-wide deployment in three years reflects both confidence in new security controls (enterprise-grade data protection, access management) and competitive pressure to accelerate AI adoption. Samsung's history supplying advanced memory chips to OpenAI adds another dimension to the partnership: they're now co-dependent on both hardware and software tiers.
