Samsung launches RX robotics division; Korea pledges 312T won to Yeongnam AI hub

Samsung Electronics launched its Robotics eXperience (RX) Business Division under CEO Roh Tae-moon, consolidating the company's robotics work into a single CEO-reporting unit. Samsung allocated 19 trillion won to Gumi in partnership with Samsung SDS to develop physical AI infrastructure and humanoid robot manufacturing. The RX division hired Executive Vice President Lee Dongkun from Hyundai Motor Group (which owns Boston Dynamics), signaling serious intent to commercialize humanoid robots at scale.

South Korean conglomerates announced a record 312 trillion won investment to transform the Yeongnam region into an advanced manufacturing hub: Samsung commits 60 trillion won to physical AI clusters including humanoid robot production in Gumi; SK Telecom invests 140 trillion won including a 1GW AI data center in Ulsan; Hyundai Motor pledges 42 trillion won to Ulsan autonomous vehicle manufacturing; Hanwha allocates 55 trillion won to aerospace and defense AI. Before the RX launch, Samsung Research published Shallow-π, a Vision-Language-Action model that compresses AI control steps to one-third of prior requirements and executes 17 decisions per second.

For architects: This is a vertical stack integration play. Samsung is combining HBM4 memory (which SK Hynix co-develops and supplies to NVIDIA—SK held 58% of the HBM market in Q1 2026), custom AI chips, robotics platforms, and manufacturing automation into a unified ecosystem. Watch for Samsung-built robots to standardize on SK memory, creating a hardware stack defensible independently of NVIDIA ecosystem choices. The 312 trillion won regional investment signals commitment to scale.
