Sila raises $300M to scale silicon-anode battery production; Moses Lake plant targets 100K+ EV capacity

Sila, a battery materials company, secured $300 million in private equity funding led by Atreides Management and Sutter Hill Ventures on July 21, 2026. The round included participation from 8VC, Bessemer Venture Partners, Matrix Partners, and funds advised by T. Rowe Price Associates. Sila will use the capital to accelerate production of its Titan Silicon silicon-carbon (Si/C) anode technology and support a planned Phase 2 expansion of its manufacturing facility in Moses Lake, Washington.

Sila's silicon-carbon anode delivers 20–40% higher energy density than traditional graphite while enabling faster charging. The company completed construction of its Moses Lake facility in fall 2025 and is currently ramping production from an initial Phase 1 capacity of 2 gigawatt-hours. The planned Phase 2 expansion aims to grow the facility to tens of gigawatt-hours annually—enough to power more than 100,000 EVs—with a long-term goal of 250 GWh capacity, which would make it the world's largest anode production facility.

The funding underscores supply chain security concerns: China controls over 80% of global anode material processing and over 90% of anode mineral supply. Sila CEO Gene Berdichevsky, a former Tesla employee (#7), frames the investment as 'American innovation' paired with gigascale U.S. manufacturing to reduce dependency on Chinese sources. Beyond EVs, Sila materials are increasingly targeted for AI data center batteries, drones, satellites, and robotics. The company has deals with Mercedes-Benz, Panasonic, and other Tier 1 customers. Global EV sales are up 27% year-over-year despite softened U.S. demand, signaling sustained international demand for advanced battery materials.
