Twin1 AI launches from stealth with $20M seed for employee digital twins

Twin1 AI emerged from stealth with $20 million in seed funding, co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners, Tribeca Venture Partners and Aramco Ventures. The San Mateo-based startup builds AI-powered digital twins for knowledge workers—persistent AI models trained on each employee's email, meetings, documents and workplace context. The twins operate across Slack, Teams, Outlook, Gmail, Google Drive and SharePoint, answering questions and executing actions on behalf of their users while remaining under human control.

Twin1 has been deployed for over a year with customers in legal, financial services, and energy sectors including law firms Linklaters, Orrick, and Dechert, and energy companies like Aegis Energy. Early customers report automating 30–50% of communications work performed by knowledge workers. The round also included strategic investment from Orrick and participation from EJF Ventures, Lakestar, Notion Capital, and angel investors including Wiz co-founder Roy Reznik and McKinsey veteran Kevin Buehler.

Twin1 is built around a governance-first architecture: users retain full control over what data their twin accesses and how information is shared. The platform layers six interlocking controls—combining enterprise policies, inherited permissions, AI-based rules and human approval—to ensure inter-employee communications and AI agent interactions stay permission-aware and governed.

For architects shipping enterprise AI agents, Twin1 addresses a critical friction: connecting fragmented organizational knowledge to autonomous agents without stripping governance, permissioning or human agency. As enterprises move from tools to agents that take action, maintaining context-aware, permission-safe access to employee knowledge becomes a bottleneck. Twin1 is betting that individual digital twins—not generic chatbots—will be the interface that preserves expertise while allowing it to scale.
