Wordsmith legaltech adds $14M Series B extension, hitting $114M total raised in 26 months
Edinburgh-founded Wordsmith AI has raised a $14 million extension to its June Series B, bringing total funding to $114 million across seed, Series A, Series B, and this extension ($5M seed, $25M Series A, $70M Series B, $14M extension). The new capital is led by Intact Private Capital, with existing backers Highland Europe and Index Ventures returning, and FT Ventures (the Financial Times' investment arm) joining as a new shareholder. FT Ventures' inclusion signals corporate adoption: the Financial Times' own in-house legal team has chosen Wordsmith as its enterprise legal AI platform.
Wordsmith is built exclusively for in-house corporate legal teams, not law firms, using AI agents to route, process, and complete routine legal work across organizations. The platform integrates with email, Slack, Teams, and Salesforce, and it now serves more than 500 companies including BT, Sage, Starling, Canva, and Safelite. Revenue has grown 14× year-over-year. The company will use the new funding to expand its North American presence and deepen coverage of financial services and insurance sectors.
For builders tracking enterprise AI adoption in regulated verticals: the rapid follow-on funding (just 10 weeks after the $70M Series B close) signals strong investor demand and the maturation of in-house legal AI as a workflow category. Wordsmith's vertical differentiation—legal infrastructure for internal teams rather than law-firm copilots or research tools—mirrors the pattern seen in healthcare and financial compliance, where domain-specific agents now handle routine decision-making at enterprise scale.
